New Zealand: The safest country in the world to study and live in

Over many years, New Zealand has earned a reputation as well as numerous accolades and awards, for its safety as a travel destination and for its social and cultural harmony. New Zealand is currently ranked number one in the Global Peace Index (2009) as the "Safest Place in the World to Live".
Now as never before, students and their parents are keenly interested in choosing not only a high-quality educational institute to study with, but also a safe and welcoming country to live in while they study; New Zealand is that Country.

PBRS meets Immigration New Zealand!

Scott Ramsay, Luella Bartlett and Annaleis Shearer met with key Immigration New Zealand staff to discuss speedier immigration processing times for students. PBRS are completely committed to not only supporting our students once they arrive in New Zealand, but also whilst they are in the application process. We found the meeting very helpful. Recent announcements made on the subject will, once implemented make important in-roads into the problem and should start to close the gap between New Zealand processing time and those of Australia, UK and  other major competitors for fee-paying Indian students.

On the way to the meeting with Immigration New Zealand in Wellington, PBRS had the pleasure of bumping into two of our past International Students; Saiyad and Imrana!
Saiyad and Imrana are both working at the exclusive Koru Lounge in Auckland International Airport having graduated from PBRS in 2009!

Celebrating Diwali in New Zealand with PBRS

The PBRS International Department along with Students and Tutors were delighted to attend Diwali Celebrations in Auckland on the 10th of October 2009.

The word “Diwali” is the reform of the Sanskrit word “Deepavali” Deepa meaning light and Avali , meaning a row. It means a row of light! The overall theme of Diwali is victory of life over death, the victory of light over darkness and the ultimate victory of good over evil. Due to the large number of Indian and Fiji Indian citizens living in Auckland, each year New Zealand organizes a wonderful Diwali Festival for everyone to enjoy.

After meeting at the Professional Bar and Restaurant
School the International Department and tutors along with the students jointly walked to the Viaduct where the Diwali Celebrations were taking place

On arrival, the team was immediately struck by the
wonderful blends of colors exhibited across the festival.

We started our journey through the sweet filled stalls and the gift shops selling authentic Indian products. Whilst the ladies were appreciating the gold jewellery, the shoes and the bangles, the men were visiting the colorful and lively Rajasthani puppet show.

On our way to the main stage however we could not resist and tasted some of the most mouth watering Samosas and Indian delicacies.

As we approached the stage the international department, students and tutors were mesmerized by the melodic traditional Hindustani classical music played on the Sitar. This was accompanied by the beat of the Tabla (a drum shell Carved out of a solid piece of hard wood, a famous percussion instrument from North India)

The Diwali Celebration continued with a Bollywood Dance Competition, several fashion shows and finally ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the Auckland seafront and skyline.

Happy Diwali 2009!

Auckland will be celebrating Diwali by featuring traditional and contemporary performances, a Bollywood dance competition, fashion shows, craft and traditional food stalls, spectacular lights and decorations and a fireworks display at the city's Viaduct.
Diwali symbolises the victory of righteousness, the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and the renewal of life. It is a time when families light and place small oil lamps (diyas) and candles around the home and set off fireworks!
The International Students of PBRS along with their tutors and the International team will be visiting the fesitival on the 10th of October to celebrate Diwali 2009!

PBRS TEAM POSTS PHOTOS OF FIJI VISIT

Ni sa bula vinaka!

In May, PBRS visited Suva, Nadi and Lautoka to introduce New Zealand's premier hospitality management institute to prospective students in Fiji.
We were impressed by the interest in our courses from both school leavers wanting to take their first steps towards an international career in hospitality, as well as seasoned hospitality professionals who were looking to upskill.

Prospective students who have a wealth of prior experience in the hospitality industry; be it behind the bar, in a cafe, restaurant or hotel, may be eligible for RPL: Recognition of Prior Learning. To find out more, please go to www.nzqa.govt.nz or contact the school directly to find out more.
In visiting Fiji, Scott Ramsay and Luella Bartlett made appointments to network
and meet with key hospitality figures in Fiji so as to better address the needs of Fijian students and hospitality professionals in our training programme.
Amongst them were the Acting CEO of the Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association and Chris Mallam, Marketing and Events Manager of O'Reilly's Bar and The Mad Dog Cafe. (see below)

We so look forward to welcoming our Fijian students over the coming months!
If you would like to find out more about our courses, hospitality or New Zealand, please feel free to either contact Annaleis (PBRS), Renae or Shobhana (Official Fiji Representatives of PBRS).
